A Stomps-Burkhardt oak armchair with prominent ray-fleck grain, a contoured solid seat and sweeping arms. Two carved lion heads flank a central scroll ornament on the shaped back, with curled ends completing the crest. Curved legs and turned stretchers give the chair an open, sculptural profile in the Renaissance Revival taste. A partial paper label beneath the seat identifies Stomps-Burkhardt Co., Dayton, Ohio, and No. X72. The company adopted this name in 1890; the chair is consistent with late 19th- or early 20th-century production. Surface scuffs, finish wear and losses to the paper label are visible. The chair measures approximately 25 inches wide by 20 inches deep by 35 inches high.
