Two American bison, commonly called buffalo, skulls with contrasting horn appearance. One retains dark, ridged horn sheaths curving upward and inward; the other has pale, porous horn cores exposed. Both are presented without lower jaws. The skulls show weathering, discoloration, open seams, cracks and bone losses. The example with exposed horn cores has a hole in its frontal area. The larger is recorded at approximately 17 by 23.5 by 10 inches high.
