An intricately carved walrus ivory scene by D. Noel Smith depicts a caribou lowering its branching antlers toward a wolf stretched across the ground. Finely incised fur, slender legs, open spaces between the antlers and a textured ground emphasize the close encounter. The ivory carving lifts from its raised wooden base. The underside is signed ‘D. Noel Smith’ and bears an additional number. The carving is worked from a single walrus tusk. Overall dimensions, including the base, are approximately 7.25 inches long by 4.5 inches wide by 5 inches high.
